Link Building

Is the process of creating links back to your website on other sites on the internet. Search engines follow these links to gather relevant information about your site to assist with ranking on their search engines for short and long tail keywords. Links can be anything from posts, comments, blogs, directory submitting, editorials, press releases etc. Link building is one of the most important things to do to build over all generic search engine ranking. It is a long term strategy and can take weeks, months or even years to reach first position rankings in all search engines for all your keywords.

Blogs, press releases and news stories are one of the best ways to increase your Google rankings for both long and short tail key words. Long tail keywords are terms submitted to search engines for something very specific usually 4 or more words. Search engines regularly scan the content on your links and your website to assist its users to find what they are looking for they then refer their user either to your article or your website. There are a number of automated sites that help you with creating article and posting them around the internet. Most of these systems charge a monthly subscription to post these stories out to news sites which they read and decide to post if they feel the story has content their users would be interested in.

Places to link build

Link building can be anywhere on the internet including; social media sites, news and press, blogs. Other places include directories like MarineDex allow you to upload your business contacts information against specific keywords in the directory providing users with an idea on what your business does so they may contact you to provide services to them. Link swapping is another way for people to find you however less common since out bound link hinder Google rankings. This of as a carton of milk every out bound link is a hole in the cartoon where milk falls out. Ever link coming to your site is a hose pumping more milk in. When it comes to create a great website that ranks well, all will agree that "content is king" keep write interesting content for users and links will follow and so will the traffic. I would suggest a news story or new page every other day or at least 3 times a week.

There are a number of great forums out there that can help you find great places to link build yourself if you’re on a shoe string budget. There are also a number of professional short videos to help you start building links, it can be a bit daunting and slow if you are unfamiliar with the internet but an interesting learning experience if you have the time.

 •    The first place I would recommend you register your business is Google places.

 •    The next import tool to use is Google alerts for your business name, field or keywords as well as your competitors so that you can keep tabs on where they are and what they are doing. Google alerts sends you a message informing you when any of these keywords are used and where so that you can respond quickly.

•    The next important step is to set up social media accounts with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google + and set aside time every day to write comments to your users and fans. It doesn’t have to be about your company just something interesting.

•    Next start submitting your business to online directories like MarineDex; making sure to assign your site to the categories that best describe what your company does to gain access to their users as lift your sites ranking for those keywords.
